Hot 2017 Apartment Decorating Trends

Are you planning to do a little redecorating in your Palladian Place apartment this year? As you start planning your space, you may want to keep in mind some of the hottest decorating trends. Here are some hot trends that today’s decorators are embracing.

Repurposed Decor

Old shutters, peeling paint on a metal star, these are the things that make a 2017 decorator’s imagination soar. Whether you re-purpose things on your own or purchase items that have that chipped, worn look, you can’t go wrong with the “re-use” mentality as you prep for a new decor scheme in your home.

Mixing Metals

Mixing metal types continues to be a design trend, as decorators are bringing in a variety of metals rather than going for a matchy-matchy look. Both cool and warm metallics brought in to your Chapel Hill apartment as accent pieces will create interest and keep the space together. Just remember not to over-do it. Keep your metals at one to two metals, and don’t throw in too many to create a cluttered space.

Upholstered Headboards

If you’re ready for an upgrade in the bedroom, consider investing in or making an upholstered headboard. This chic trend is replacing the large wooden models of years before, and can help soften and add color to your bedroom.

Lucite Furniture

Lucite, also known as acrylic or Plexiglas, is popping up in modern design trends this year as well. The clear material can add function and interest to your space, without being too heavy on the overall design. Like most design trends, use this one in moderation, but don’t be afraid of a Lucite coffee table or accent chair if you’re updating your furnishings with your redecorating.

Keep It Simple

Remember, if you’re redecorating your Chapel Hill apartment, a little bit goes a long way. Be willing to part with favorite items as you bring in new, updated items, and don’t over fill your apartment to make the space feel small and cluttered. Still, if a redesign is in your plans for 2017, knowing these design trends will make it much easier to embrace what’s popular this year.

Hosting the Holidays in Your Apartment

ba99ff6bc2e24f591ae05ac8247634c7275e72cfIt’s the holiday season. With that comes thoughts of family dinners around the table, sharing stories and renewing relationships. Yet when it’s your turn to host the holidays, and you live in an apartment, what can you do? Here are some tips to make the most out of your space as you welcome friends or family for the holidays:

1. Rearrange the Furniture

One of the fastest ways to manufacture more space in an apartment floor plan is to open it up by rearranging the furnishings. For example, move your couches into the bedroom for the evening, and then set up a dining space in your living room. Everyone will have more space to spread out, and you can throw a leaf into the table to make it just a little more spacious.

2. Ask Others to Contribute

As an apartment resident, you may have a little less space to put out a full spread. If your counter space is not sufficient for cooking turkey with all of the fixings you’re planning, consider asking your guests to contribute to the meal. You can cook up the main dish, and the sides can come from your guests. This frees you from some of the stress of the day, and also frees your counter space to hold already-cooked food.

3. Use Fridge Space Wisely

Your fridge space may be limited. In the weeks before you host, try to clean out all of the leftovers. Then, make sure that you aren’t taking up fridge space with packaging. Pre-wash and prep your foods to ensure that you aren’t filling the fridge with unnecessary packaging.

4. Make Ahead

Some items can be prepped ahead and frozen for the big day. Pie, cranberry sauce and some baked goods can easily be made ahead and stored, freeing your pre-party time (and space) for the items that have to be made that day.

5. Serve Food Buffet Style

Instead of putting all of the food on the table to dine, consider serving it “buffet style.” This will free up more space for your lovely place settings on your dining room table. Remember, it’s about spending time together much more than having the perfect table setting!

As you can see, hosting a holiday dinner in your apartment takes some creativity, but it is definitely possible. Keep these tips in mind to have a stress-free holiday in your apartment at Palladian Place!
